  This is a very cute little diner that serves meals cafeteria style. You get your tray and order and pay for the food up front. There is a decent selection of English food available and daily specials. They make a decent cup of specialty coffee and a deluxe cocoa with whipped cream and marshmallows. They open at 9am and are one of only 2 or 3 sit down restaurants in town. They do take credit cards and offer specialty jams and savory chutneys in cute little jars and packaged together for take away. They are not open on Sundays. They have one unisex restroom that is wheelchair accessible but it is small and cramped and the sink is very low! One of the few restrooms in town that have paper towels as most only have air dryers. There is a medicinal smell as you walk in but you become nose blind shortly. Again, ice is in short supply! Staff are helpful and friendly, as are locals.

  Based in Stanhope in the beautiful wear valley the Durham Sales Centre is worth a visit. From restaurant to gift shops and art exhibition it's a great stopping off point.

  Lovely place for a picnic in the garden. Had a quick look round the shops, didn't eat or drink in the cafe but looked nice and they do offer a Sunday lunch. The information centre is actually just a leaflet stand, (unfortunately they didn't have leaflets for any of the Stanhope walks, but did have a few for Wolsingham nearby) and a computer screen that gives access to the visit Durham website. Which was useful as we found at least 2 walks start and finish in Stanhope on the website! And free parking for up to 4 hours
